Manifesto
India deserves first-party data infrastructure built by people who live here, governed by Indian law, on Indian substrate.
What we believe
- Bharat is not an edge case. It is the world's largest dataset of urbanisation in motion. Western APIs treat it as a footnote; we treat it as the homepage.
- Agents are first-class users. Most "agent-friendly" APIs are humans-with-extra-steps. Ours assume an LLM with a tool-call budget — every response carries an envelope an LLM can act on.
- Cost discipline is ethics. We publish per-endpoint token cost so you (or your model) know what each call burns. No surprises, no black-box billing.
- Cache aggressively, ship cheaply. Free tier exists because a young engineer in Coimbatore should be able to ship a production app on a student's stipend.
- Attribution, not lock-in. If we vanish tomorrow, your code keeps working — every endpoint is plain HTTP and every dataset is exportable.
What we refuse to do
- Pretend India looks like the US.
- Charge by the seat for things that scale by the call.
- Hide rate limits in fine print.
- Lock customers in via SDK tricks.
- Ship logos we don't have signed permission for.
Bharat will not be embarrassed by its own data API.
